America was founded by people who had a similar philosophy of life. That is why America has always welcomed so many different people groups to its shores. However, that does not imply that they should feel free to destroy the very unconditional beliefs that were responsible for that welcome John Adams, a founding father and our 2nd president, said,
"Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."The term "religious people" applied almost exclusively in those days to Christians. The liberties and duties defined in our Constitution were based upon Christian principles found in the Bible as well as hard won experience in dealing with despotic governments of the time.
One of the most important rights codified in our Constitution was the 2nd Amendment:
"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."This simple statement and all the quotes written about it at the time of its origination make clear that it applies to individuals as well as to states.
"the ultimate authority ... resides in the people alone," (James Madison, author of the Bill of Rights, in Federalist Paper #46However, today we have a government who wants to eliminate this right by passing laws to restrict individual citizens from buying, selling, and owning firearms. Their recent attempt to pass this restriction narrowly failed, but they have vowed to continue even bypassing Congress if they need to. Vice President Joe Bidden recently stated:
"The president is going to act," said Biden, giving some comments to the press before a meeting with victims of gun violence. "There are executives orders, there's executive action that can be taken. We haven't decided what that is yet. But we're compiling it all with the help of the attorney general and the rest of the cabinet members as well as legislative action that we believe is required."As the liberal, progressive politicians and news media spew forth their only answer to today's violence - take more freedoms away from the law-abiding citizens - I have a radical idea. Let's return to our moral and religious foundations that made us great and safe in the first place. Let's stop kicking God out of our schools and our public life and instead give Him the honor He alone is due. That way, we can be safe and keep our guns as well!
